A lot of Honda fans and enthusiasts lost their minds when it was announced that the tenth-generation Civic would bring with it the Type R trim level for the first time here in North America. Around six years later, and the 2021 Honda Civic Type R still presents an excellent, exciting and popular option in the compact hatchback sedan market, especially for those drivers looking for something with an extra boost of performance. The Civic Type R is a high-performance variant of the Honda Civic Hatchback, offering boosted power and enhanced performance in a similar package.
We thought we’d kick things off by taking a look at the powertrain of the Civic Type R, considering it’s the main attraction in any high-performance vehicle. Beneath the hood of the Type R rests a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that’s capable of generating a whopping 306 horsepower alongside 295 pound-feet of torque. That’s quite a bit more power than the rest of Civic family, and it’s sure to deliver an exciting experience each time you hit the road.
The 2021 model year sees the addition of a new trim level, which is a big change consider up until now the Type R was a monospec model. The new Limited Edition trim level is a special variant of which only 600 will be built. Each one is painted in an exclusive Phoenix Yellow color option and features exclusive upgrades like BBS forged alloy wheels, extra sticky Michelin tires, a reduction and weight and even bespoke chassis tuning.
