Not many know this, but the Honda Insight was actually the first hybrid vehicle available in North America, preceding the Toyota Prius by several months. The Insight has undergone quite a few changes since that first generation, in which it was a three-door, two-passenger liftback. That model was discontinued in 2006, before the Insight nameplate returned in 2010 as a five-door, five-passenger liftback and lasted until 2014. Finally, just last year, the four-door sedan we know today as the 2020 Honda Insight became available right here in Bluffton SC.
As a hybrid sedan, fuel economy comes first and foremost, and the Insight certainly delivers on that front. Powered by a 1.5L four-cylinder engine tethered to an AC Synchronous Permanent-Magnet Electric Motor, the Honda Insight is capable of generating a total of 151.5 horsepower.
More importantly, however, the Insight achieves 55 miles per gallon* through the city and 49 mpg* on the highway for a combined rating of 52 mpg* on its LX and EX trim levels. The top-of-the-line Touring trim does give up a bit of efficiency, dropping to 51/45/48 mpg*, respectively. Regardless of trim, the Insight is quite efficient, even giving up a few miles per gallon on its top tier.
While efficiency is certainly key, it’s not all the Honda Insight has to offer. There are tons of great features and technologies inside and out that make the Insight a great vehicle to drive, enhancing everything from convenience to comfort and so much more. Plus, the 2020 Honda Insight comes standard with the Honda Sensing suite of safety features, which includes the Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, Lane Keeping Assist System and Traffic Sign Recognition.
