Drivers who have been with Honda for a while now may find the Insight name to be familiar. That's because it is, as the Honda Insight was produced from the 2000 – 2006 model years, and then from the 2010 – 2014 model years. Now, the Insight is back for 2019, with a hybrid powertrain suited for the modern era. We can't wait to show you the car up-close and in-person here at Hilton Head Honda, so stop by our dealership in Bluffton, SC or read on to learn more.
So, what is different about the Insight this time around? Well, many things, but one of the most obvious changes is that the 2019 Insight comes in sedan form for its third generation. For the first and second generation, Honda designed the vehicle as a hatchback. Indeed, a lot has changed for this third generation of the Insight, and all these changes are bound to usher in a new era of hybrid electric mobility.
As a hybrid model, one of the most important things about a car like the Insight is how it consumes fuel. The Insight sips it at an efficient rate, capable of achieving up to 55 mpg city and 49 mpg highway, for a combined 52 mpg on LX and EX trims.* The gas engine connects to a motor to generate electricity for the electric motor or to charge the lithium ion battery.
Back in the day, hybrid electric vehicles suffered from the stereotype that they were underpowered and dull to drive. Combining a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle engine with an electric motor, the Insight pumps out a rather impressive total system horsepower of 151, while the electric motor alone delivers 197 lb-ft of torque.
Of course, the powertrain isn't the only high-tech equipment to be found in the Insight. With easy USB port access and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay on an available 8-inch Display Audio high-resolution touch-screen, it's easy to stay connected on the go. There are also high-tech safety features, like Honda LaneWatch™, projecting live blind spot video to your touch-screen.
As you can tell by now, the Insight is more than just an efficient car. It delivers the latest in automotive technology, and style as well. Full LED headlights light up the front fascia, while LED taillights and brake lights illuminate the rear. Inside, there is comfortable room for up to 5 passengers and an easy fold-down rear seatback for when you need more room for cargo, ensuring you'll never miss the old hatchback design of the Insight from years past.
